February is the second month of the year. And for the month of February, we will be discussing the symbol of the number two in the bible. Two signifies many different things in the bible but for this month, we will be solely focusing on the things listed: Two the Unity, Two the Son, Two the Second Chance, and Two the Acts. [The takeaway for this series is to understand that two are better than one, the importance of community, and God’s design/creation for us.]
Two means unity in the bible. Going back to the creation narrative, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27 NIV). And “The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him’” (Genesis 2:18 NIV).
God didn’t fashion His creation to be alone. It is a trick of the enemy that you can do life by yourself. And that doesn’t always mean in the terms of romantic relationships. But we weren’t created to do life without people.
Yes, God has given each of us a singular purpose to carry out. But God has put it in such a way that we cannot come to the full fulfillment of our purpose without help.
Paul’s many letters ended in him sending his greetings along with those of his companions or ‘co-workers’ or ‘co-labors in Christ’ as he called it. He was very interconnected among the people. Although he never married, he had sons in Christ, like Timothy. And had brothers and sisters in the faith, like Silas, Barnabas, Tychicus, Priscilla, and Lydia.
“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.”
Acts 16:25-26 NIV
“Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”
Matthew 18:19-20 NKJV
There is a level of power and glory that resides on God’s people that come together. We will later cover in this series the result of the believers coming together in Acts 2.
But this is why it is important to be in church. It’s important to be around people that are collectively worshipping God. It’s crucial for us to be surrounded by like-minded believers.
Being around other believers is meant to help you in your God assigned task and encourage your faith in the Lord.
Even Jesus had a select few around him that He was close to. He had the multitudes, the seventy, the twelve, and his three. He sent the twelve out (Matthew 10) to go before him into the towns, healing, preaching, and teaching, about the Kingdom of Heaven. And later did the same with the seventy (Luke 10).
But his three got to experience things that the others weren’t invited to witness firsthand.
“Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was transfigured before them”
Mark 9:2 NKJV
“Then they came to a place which was named Gethsemane; and He said to His disciples, ‘Sit here while I pray.’ And He took Peter, James, and John with Him, and He began to be troubled and deeply distressed. Then He said to them, ‘My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch.’”
Mark 14:32-34 NKJV
Jesus saw fit to reveal more to the three than to the twelve and the seventy. And after Jesus died and rose, he gave them all this commission, “Therefore, go, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20 NLT).
Jesus used and charged his twelve with the title and office of Apostle. They were charged with delivering the Good News (the message of Jesus and Salvation) to the people. They carried out His purpose in the earth.
And just as Jesus used others to further carry out His purpose, He has also ordained for people to help us to carry out our God assigned purpose. Remember that even God created Eve to be a helpmate for Adam (Genesis 2).
For this season, believe and pray that God will connect you with the right people. And pray for strength as God removes the people that He has not assigned to your life. For we need discernment to know who and why someone is coming into our life. And for how long they will be in it.
For some people that God has caused to come into our life, are not lifelong companions but people that were only meant to be there for a season. And this is where we need discernment to know that they are only seasonal, and the strength to remove ourselves after that season is over.
So, today be encouraged and know that God has and will place people in your life to encourage you, uplift you, intercede for you, and genuinely love you. So have hope in the Lord and know that you are never alone, nor were you created to do life alone.
Y’all have a great week and remember to uplift, inspire, enlighten, and, more importantly, encourage someone. If you want to reach out or have any prayer request, you can submit them here.
