“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Acts 2:1-4 KJV)
We have discussed Two the unity, Two the Son, and Two the Second Chance over the last few weeks. This last part of the series encompasses all the past installments of our series.
Acts two, is where the Apostles and some believers receive the Holy Spirit that Jesus had promised them.
The Unity of them, together in one place, with one accord as the words says, resulted in them receiving the Holy Spirit.
In the first part of this series, we talked about the necessity for believers to come together. And this is a perfect picture of what happens when believers get together on one accord.
God dwells there. “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20 KJV).
In Acts two, the atmosphere was set for them to receive the Holy Spirit. Similarly to what happened in Acts 10. Peter was called to Cornelius’ house, who was a captain in the Italian Regiment and a God-fearing man. When Peter came to the house, Cornelius told him, “Now we are all here, waiting before God to hear the message the Lord has given you.” (Acts 10:33 NLT).
Cornelius had gathered family and friends to hear what the Lord had to say. Him and everyone there had an expectation to receive a word from the Lord. And God answered, not only by the means of hearing the Gospel, but they too got filled.
“While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message.”
Acts 10:44 NIV
“‘As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning.’”
Acts 11:15 NIV
So, coming together can position us to receive the Holy Spirit, or lead others to getting filled.
And we couldn’t receive the Holy Spirit without the Son. Because before Jesus ascended to heaven, He promised that the Holy Spirit would come.
“Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit…But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 1:4-5, 8 NIV
“I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but say in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”
Luke 24:49 NIV
And like at Cornelius house, the Holy Spirit is meant to be poured out on all of us.
“‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people…Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.’”
Acts 2:17-18 NIV, Joel 2:28-29 NIV
The Holy Spirit resides within us upon accepting Christ and receiving God’s spirit. And in giving us a Second Chance, God’s spirit became a part of us.
And we have become one with God like we never have before. Our bodies are now temples of the Holy Spirit.
“But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him.”
1 Corinthians 6:17 NLT
“Don’t you realize that your bodies are actually parts of Christ?’’
1 Corinthians 6:15 NLT
“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who lives in you and was given to you by God? You don’t belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.”
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT
God has given us His Spirit so that we may be Holy, connected to Him, and know His will so that we may carry it out on earth.
So, today if you do not have the Holy Spirit, pray to God your Father and ask Him for it. Ask Him to fill you with His Spirit so that He may guide your life through the unctionning of His Spirit. For, we can only please God by operating out of His Spirit (Romans 8, Galatians 5).
