“Now on one of those days Jesus and His disciples got into a boat, and He said to them, ‘Let us cross over to the other side of the lake (Sea of Galilee).’ So they set out. But as they were sailing, He fell asleep. And a fierce gale of wind swept down [as if through a wind tunnel] on the lake, and they began to be swamped, and were in great danger. They came to Jesus and woke Him, saying, ‘Master, Master, we are about to die!’ He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging, violent waves, and they ceased, and it became calm [a perfect peacefulness]. And He said to them, ‘Where is your faith [your confidence in Me]?’ They were afraid and astonished, saying to one another, ‘Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the sea, and they obey Him?’

Three: Where is your faith?

The disciples knew who to go to when they were in trouble. And knew (had faith) that Jesus would save them. But they didn’t have faith in His word.

Jesus had performed many signs before this. Such as raising a boy from the dead (Luke 7:11), healing of a centurion’s slave (Luke 7), healing a paralyzed man (Luke 5), casting out demons and healing multitudes of people (Luke 5).

The disciples got first had experience with whom Jesus was and what He could do and did do. At this moment, they minimized the Lord. They highlighted the magnitude of the storm and not of His word.

Jesus was WITH them. He was sleeping but was WITH them.

All Jesus required of them in that moment was to have faith in Him. This is why the Lord tells us to, “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalms 46:10 KJV).

Jesus didn’t just rebuke the storm, but He also rebuked them too because of their lack of faith in His word.

The bible says that we cannot obtain anything from God without faith. And it’s impossible to please Him without faith (Hebrews 11). And in James 1, it says that a double-minded person is unstable in all their ways. Also, they shouldn’t expect to receive anything from God (v. 6-7). And it is by our faith that we are saved (Romans 10:10).

Faith is the foundation of our Faith. For God saved us by faith and we must maintain faith in Him.

God doesn’t desire us to be consumed with the things and storms of this world that we miss Him. And the disciples missed him. Yes, they went to the one who could save them in the boat. But they failed to have faith in Jesus’s word.

God has saved us and has given us a future and a promise (Jeremiah 29:11). We are called to trust in Him. We must believe that God holds true to His word. Things aren’t accomplished and seen by our doubt. But is by our faith that we shall see God and our promise.

As we go throughout the rest of the year, let us focus our eyes on the Lord. God allows the storms in our life. But He is sovereign, and we are called to have faith in Him and to trust in His word.

So, don’t focus on the storm. Know that God is with you and no matter what things may look like, God is still faithful to His word.
