*Disclaimer: Typically, we only feature one series a week. However, for the rest of this month, we’ll be participating in two separate series.
“Now on one of those days Jesus and His disciples got into a boat, and He said to them, ‘Let us cross over to the other side of the lake (Sea of Galilee).’ So they set out. But as they were sailing, He fell asleep. And a fierce gale of wind swept down [as if through a wind tunnel] on the lake, and they began to be swamped, and were in great danger. They came to Jesus and woke Him, said, ‘Master, Master, we are about to die!’ He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging, violent waves, and they ceased, and it became calm [a perfect peacefulness]. And He said to them, ‘Where is your faith [your confidence in Me]?’ They were afraid and astonished, saying to one another, ‘Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the sea, and they obey Him?’”
Luke 8:22-25 AMP
This scripture may be familiar to many of us. But there are many things we can ALL gleam by studying this passage. So, over the next three weeks we’ll focus on three key takeaways we can glean from analyzing this. That is;
- Week One: God is true to His word and no one and nothing is exempt to the word of the Lord
- Week Two: Present circumstances don’t dictate future outcomes
- Week Three: Where is your faith?
Week One: God is true to His word and no one and nothing is exempt from the word of the Lord
The beginning of this passage starts off with Jesus telling His disciples to come together and ‘let us cross over to the other side’. In Genesis 1 the Lord said, ‘let there be light’ and ‘let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water’ also, ‘let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear’. Following God’s word, the bible said, ‘And it was so’. Everything responded to the words that God spoke, including the vastness of the universe.
The world was created in response to the word of the Lord.
“You placed the world on its foundation so it would never be moved. You clothed the earth with floods of water, water that covered the mountains. At your command, the water fled; at the sound of your thunder, it hurried away. Mountains rose and valleys sank to the levels you decreed. Then you set a firm boundary for the seas, so they would never again cover the earth.”
Psalms 104:5-9 NLT
In v. 26 it said, “Then they sailed to the country of the Gerasenes, which is east of Galilee. Now when Jesus stepped out on land…” And thus, this is further proof that the word of the Lord was fulfilled, because they made it to the other side.
Everything must follow the word of the Lord. Even Satan is subject to God and must obey Him. In Job 1&2, the Lord sets perimeters in which how and when Satan could afflict Job. Satan thought he was enticing God, but this showed that even Satan obeys God.
And we are also subject to the Lord and must obey Him as everything in creation does.
The word of the Lord shall be carried out in the earth. Even Jesus knew this. His life here on earth was Him carrying out the word of the Lord.
But it was also partially why He was sleeping on the boat during the storm. For He knew His expected end. And it wasn’t on that boat, but on the cross. So, just as he rebuked the storm and there was ‘a perfect peacefulness’ after, so He was operating out of perfect peace, knowing that His word would be carried out.
“So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me void (useless, without result), Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.”
Isaiah 55:11 AMP
So, today I want you all to examine yourselves. Are you obeying the word of the Lord? Are you believing the word of the Lord. Are you working with the Lord to carry out His will on the earth? Do you trust in the word of the Lord? And are you declaring and speaking the word of the Lord?
If you aren’t doing these things, then start to pray and ask God to fill you up with His word so that you may carry it out in the earth. Y’all have a great week and remember to uplift, inspire, enlighten, and, more importantly, encourage someone. If you want to reach out or have any prayer requests, you can submit them here.
