LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD
The Lord should be the first love of your life. He should be the first thing on your mind when you wake up and the last thing before you go to bed. You should continually talk with Him throughout your day. You should check in with Him first before you make any plans.
If we treated the Lord with the same value and significance that we give one another in romantic relationships, what would our relationship with God look like?
In the same way that we value and treasure those relationships, we must do the same with the Lord.
We are not called to put another before God. If you are constantly seeking, talking with, spending time, and thinking about someone, and neglecting your relationship with God, then you have made an idol out of the person and that relationship.
You must worship no other gods, for the LORD, whose very name is Jealous, is a God who is jealous about his relationship with you.
Exodus 34:14 NLT
If you do not remove the idol, God will. God will not stand for you to have anything, especially a person, erected before him.
In 1Kings 11, the bible says that Solomon’s wives turned his heart after other gods. He did not fully set his heart upon the Lord. Not only the wrong person can turn your heart away from God, but the right one, too.
Check your heart today to ensure that you are not putting a person before God.
If you don’t remove the idol, God will.
Love Him with Your All
Jesus said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”
Matthew 22:37 NKJV
The Lord your God is testing you to see if you truly love him with all your heart and soul.
Deuteronomy 13:3 NLT
The Lord is assessing our hearts to see how much we love Him.
Do you love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind?
When you love someone, you are not just in their presence to get something from them. But you are present and attentive to them because of the care that you have towards them. You pay close attention to their words because they are from the one you love.
And although you may sometimes feel frustrated or upset with this person, you choose not to be mean to them. You cover them with grace because of how they have loved you.
And God first loved us (1 John 4:19). Despite our sinful state, he loved us. He loved us through the process of Him healing us. He loved us when we fell short and had to come back. God loves us, for He truly knows us. We cannot hide anything from God, for He examines our hearts.
So, as you go throughout your week. Think about how you can love God more. Intentionally seek him out in prayer. Spend time reading His word and let God download things into you. Have a wonderful week and remember to uplift, inspire, enlighten, and, more importantly, encourage somebody. If you want to reach out or have any prayer requests, you can submit them here.
