“Whoever has ears, let him hear.” (Matthew 13:9 NIV)
Last week, we briefly touched on how the word of God is alive.
“For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12 AMP
And this week we will be going more in depth about this. Because His word is a way He speaks back to us.
So, it is crucial to read the word, so we know what God is saying.
It’s also the measure by which to govern our lives. And we weren’t created to do life without the word of God. For even Jesus said, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that come from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4 NIV).
And Jesus is the word made flesh.
“God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.”
John 1:3 NIV
“So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.”
John 1:14 NLT
The bible says that we are overcome by the word of our testimonies (Revelation 12:11). And the word testifies as to who God is.
The stories in the bible aren’t fiction. They are real.
Adam and Eve were real people who walked the earth. Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Daniel, and Elijah are real people. We don’t just have a catalog of their stories, but of their lives.
They weren’t perfect or did all the right things. But they served a perfect God who was faithful to them.
And the word of God encourages us and reminds us of what kind of God that we serve.
And to know God is to know His word.
Listening to gospel music and Christian podcast and reading Christian books are good. But those things are not meant to take the place of the word of God. Instead, they are supposed to point us to His word.
God wants us to know the word of God for ourselves.
For, “All scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT)
And it’s our sword against the enemy. For the bible says that we must take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:17).
Jesus even used the word of God against Satan when he was in the wilderness. “Jesus answered, ‘It is written’” (Matthew 4:4 NIV)
There is power in declaring the word of God in your life. For you are declaring God’s words, and His word cannot come back to Him void (Isaiah 55:11).
And the more that you sit down and read the word, the more it will get down on the inside of you.
And when you are taking your troubles to God and laying them down at His feet, He gives you His word as a guarantee that He has already taken care of things.
So, I implore all of you to sit down and really get into His word. Whether you read one chapter of five daily. But make it a habit of consuming His word daily. For He is always speaking to you through it.
Y’all have a great week and remember to uplift, inspire, and enlighten, and, more importantly, encourage someone. If you want to reach out or have any prayer request or questions, then you can submit them here.
