“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
James 1:22 KJV
To be doers of His word, we must apply the word of God to our lives. The scriptures that we love to quote must be carried out through us.
We say that God is going to do exceedingly abundantly (Romans 3:20). But do we have the faith that He is really going to do that? Do we believe that no weapon formed against us may prosper (Isaiah 54:17)? Do we believe we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalms 139:14)? Do we believe that God cannot lie and that we shall see every promise that He has given us manifested on earth (Numbers 23:19)?
What would our life look like if we truly believed the scripture we read and quote commonly?
The words of the bible aren’t just words. But it is the word of God, which is alive!
“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”
Hebrews 4:12 NLT
And another version says,
“God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one can resist God’s word. We can’t get away from it—no matter what.”
Hebrews 4:12-13 MSG
God’s word is law. And His word is meant to sharpen and shape us into who He has called us to be. And we can’t expect to grow if we are not putting into practice His word.
Through His word He has given us a blueprint on how to live our lives. Jesus is THE perfect model of how we ought to live our lives. Jesus teaches us to seek God, love the Lord and people, and to carry out the Father’s will for our life vigorously, no matter the cost to ourselves.
So, this week, I implore all of you to carry out what you are reading in your devotion time with the Lord. Pray and ask the Lord to help you carry out His word. Y’all have a great week and remember to uplift, inspire, enlighten, and, more importantly, encourage someone. If you want to reach out or have any prayer requests, you can submit them here.
