“The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’” (Matthew 25:23 NLT)

This scripture is pulled from the parable of talents or bags of gold that Jesus tells. And He is telling this parable regarding the end times. And although the date and hour is unknown, we must be prepared for His return. For what we do while we are waiting for His return matters.

God has assigned to our lives each a purpose. And we must carry out our purpose while we are here on earth.

Paul says this to Timothy: “As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.” (2 Timothy 4:6-8 NLT)

Our life is meant to be poured back out to God. And there will be a time that God judges us for the work that we have done here on earth.

“But on judgement day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.”

1 Corinthians 3:13 NLT

“Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God.”

Romans 14:12 NLT

This is why we are told to set our minds on things above and not below. “Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value] (Colossians 3:2 AMP).

And Jesus tells us to seek the Kingdom of Heaven first (Matthew 6:33). Because God will take care of all our needs. We simply need to trust Him and become occupied with doing His work.

So, while we are here on earth, we are called to work faithfully at our God assigned task. Being good and faithful servants of our task.

And as a servant of God, we should have a posture of willingness to do what He has called us to. Having faithfulness to Him and His word. Submitting to His standard of living.

“Make me willing to obey you.”

Psalm 51:12 NLT

For if we are faithful with the few that God gives us, like in the parable, then He will reward us. For He is watching what we are doing with the task that He gives us.

And God will eventually reward us for our hard work.

“Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not”

Galatians 6:9 KJV

But this doesn’t mean that we should be purely working out of expectation to receive something from God.

We should be doing it out of our faithfulness to Him.

God wants us to have the right heart posture. “God judges persons differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7 MSG). And, “he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.” (Psalm 33:15 NIV)

God wants us to be eager to be disciples and evangelist. He wants us to be enthusiastic about the Kingdom of God.

“Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.”

Romans 12:11 NLT

So today, evaluate what God has given you. What does He want you occupied with this season? How can you serve God, in the place that you are in currently?

Commit yourself to doing what God says and watch what He does in and through you. Be a faithful servant unto the Lord.
